This is REALLY cool! This camera can produce 3D images based upon the same principles as Stereograms (go history of photography!!!)! You can also shoot two photos simultaneously at different settings, allowing easier creation of HDR images. The prototype also allows photographers to shoot video and stills of the same scene, wide angle and telescopic images.

Its interesting because i can see great benefits for professional and serious photographers with this technology; however, the compact size and format of the camera allude to the mass consumer driven market of digital cameras. I imagine that the first few generations of such cameras will not meet expectations of quality and performance expected by current cameras on the market, but the possibilities of dual lens technology are seemingly endless. If the format of a compact camera body is maintained, i can see websites like Facebook and Myspace taking off in whole new directions of artistically created 3-d images, further driving the consumer market.
